The construction of the bridge of Rosso can begin

In the last 50 years, the bridge of 1461 meters to replace the ferry crossing between Senegal and Mauritania, due in 2020.

The project for the construction of the bridge of Rosso rushes. The loan agreements for the financing of the infrastructure have been sealed on Thursday, 12 January in Dakar between the Senegalese Minister of Economy and Finance Tinder Ba and the Acting Resident Representative – The African Development Bank (ADB) in Dakar.

It is Senegal who will operate the project management – one of the concessions made by Nouakchott – while that Mauritania will house the headquarters of the managing authority. The work that must be completed by 2020-2021, will cost in total 57 billion CFA francs (87.5 million euros). The BAD will provide 41 million euros – in the form of gifts and in the form of loans, the European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide 22 million euros, the European Union 20 million and both States will provide the add-in, that is to say about 4.5 million euros.

The last stage

With a length of 1,461 meters, over a width of 55 meters, the infrastructure, 2 x 1 satellite, according to studies by the BAD reduce the time of passage of the border. Will theoretically from twenty-five to two minutes. The average daily traffic jump of 115 370 vehicles to the commissioning of the bridge, then 3,210 for Horizon 2048. The vehicles will gain two hours on the journey from Nouakchott to Dakar, of 550 kilometers in length.

This could further develop the activities of cross-border trade and fishing, the populations of the two coastal cities.
